Hello everyone everywhere.
Speaker A:Pastor Bob Thibodeau here.
Speaker A:Welcome to your daily 15 minute Bible walk.
Speaker A:We're so blessed you're joining us today.
Speaker A:Last time we left off finishing up Genesis chapter 28.
Speaker A:So today let's jump right into Genesis chapter 29.
Speaker A:Now just to catch you up.
Speaker A:Isaac's on his way back to his mother's brother's house to take a wife from over there.
Speaker A:He stole a blessing from Esau.
Speaker A:And Isaac agreed with Rebecca.
Speaker A:Probably better for.
Speaker A:For Jacob, he leaves.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:And we also seen where Esau seeing that it did not the women of that land did not please his mother and father.
Speaker A:He decided he was going to take a wife from over there just to get back at him a little bit.
Speaker A:But he wanted to keep the bloodline pure.
Speaker A:So it made sure they went to Ishmael's descendants and took a wife from there.
Speaker A:Because at least the.
Speaker A:The bloodline of Abraham would still be in his blood.
Speaker A:Something we failed to bring out.
Speaker A:But you notice that the.
Speaker A:When Isaac was blessing Esau with what blessing he could give him that he said that you will be.
Speaker A:Let's go back to.
Speaker A:You know you'll be.
Speaker A:Where is it?
Speaker A:Here.
Speaker A:I'm looking at.
Speaker A:He.
Speaker A:He told him that there's a brother giving him for servants corn wine.
Speaker A:Said give me a blessing also my father.
Speaker A:I'm looking at Genesis 26.
Speaker A:Esau told him that behold in verse 39, that your dwelling be the fatness of the earth, dew of heaven by your sword you shall live.
Speaker A:You serve your brother.
Speaker A:There's the Muslim nations right there.
Speaker A:They've been doing that ever since.
Speaker A:I just wanted to put that out there that this.
Speaker A:You can see how that curse still exists today, right?
Speaker A:We were talking before about how when you become restless, you can break that curse off of you and your family, your descendants.
Speaker A:Well, this is what happens.
Speaker A:You know, it's possible for Muslim people to become born again and be outstanding Christians.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:But they have to submit to the authority of Jesus.
Speaker A:And that's what a lot of them just don't want to do.
Speaker A:That doesn't make them bad people.
Speaker A:But they are still living under that curse.
Speaker A:If you want to go down that road.
Speaker A:Okay, I'm just going to leave that there.
Speaker A:Let's jump now into Genesis, chapter 29, verse 1.
Speaker A:In chapter 28, we've seen how Jacob slept, spent the night at one end up being called Bethel, the house of God.
Speaker A:He's seen that vision of the angels going up and down the angel portal into heaven.
Speaker A:And he made a deal with God.
Speaker A:Verse 20.
Speaker A:He said, if God will be with me, keep me in the way that I go, give me bread to eat and provision and raiment to put on, and it brings me back to my Father's house in peace, then I shall serve the Lord my God forever.
Speaker A:He'll be my God and build a house here.
Speaker A:And also he said, I will give you 10th, 10% of everything you bless me with.
Speaker A:I'll give it right back to you.
Speaker A:Establishing the tithe.
Speaker A:That's where we left off at last time.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:Chapter 29, verse 1.
Speaker A:Then Jacob went on his journey, came to the land of the people of the east, and he looked and behold a well in the field.
Speaker A:And there was three flocks of sheep lying by it.
Speaker A:For out of that well they watered the flocks.
Speaker A:And a great stone was on the well's mouth.
Speaker A:And there were all the flocks gathered.
Speaker A:And they rolled the stone from the well's mouth and water the sheep and then put the stone again on the well's mouth in its place.
Speaker A:Jacob said unto them, my brethren, who are you?
Speaker A:And they said, of Haran, that's who we are.
Speaker A:And said to them, do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?
Speaker A:I said, yeah, we know him.
Speaker A:They said, is he doing well?
Speaker A:They said, yes, he's well.
Speaker A:Look, here's Rachel, his daughter, coming with his sheep.
Speaker A:And he said, lo, it's near high time yet.
Speaker A:There is a time for the cattle to be gathered together yet, so water the sheep and go feed them.
Speaker A:And he said, we can't until all the flocks are gathered together.
Speaker A:Then we'll roll the stone from the well's mouth and water the sheep.
Speaker A:And while he yet spoke with him, Rachel came with her father's sheep, for she was the one charged with keeping them.
Speaker A:And it came to pass when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban, his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, rolled a stone from off the well's mouth and watered the flock of Laban, his mother's brother.
Speaker A:And Jacob kissed Rachel and lifted up his voice and wept.
Speaker A:Now, here he told Jacob, or Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother.
Speaker A:He, Jacob, told Rachel that he was her father's brother and her.
Speaker A:And he was Rebecca's son.
Speaker A:So a little thing.
Speaker A:Lost translation there, basically, that he was Laban's nephew.
Speaker A:That's.
Speaker A:That'd be a better translation.
Speaker A:In other words.
Speaker A:And he was her cousin.
Speaker A:And she ran and told her father.
Speaker A:And it came to Pass.
Speaker A:And Lilaban heard the tidings of Jacob, his sister's son.
Speaker A:Now remember what happened.
Speaker A:Well, we'll just go on.
Speaker A:How can I say this?
Speaker A:Lord, Last time Laban had an encounter like this, it was when Isaac married, you know, sent the servant over to get Laban's sister.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:Rebecca.
Speaker A:I'm sorry, not Rebecca.
Speaker A:The mother.
Speaker A:Yeah, Rebecca.
Speaker A:And that's the last.
Speaker A:It's been years.
Speaker A:It's been 20, maybe 20, 30 years.
Speaker A:We don't know how long it's been, but it's been a while.
Speaker A:And now all of a sudden, Rebecca's son comes back to visit.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:So that's why Laban is, you know, he's excited.
Speaker A:Hey, yeah.
Speaker A:You know, so he comes back out here.
Speaker A:That's.
Speaker A:That's the point I wanted to make here.
Speaker A:So he.
Speaker A:And told about all these things Laban said and came to pass Lebanon, heard the tidings of Jacob.
Speaker A:Assistant he ran to meet him, embraced him, kissed him and brought him to his house.
Speaker A:And he told Laban all these things.
Speaker A:And Laban said to him, surely you are my bone and my flesh.
Speaker A:Stay here with us.
Speaker A:And he stayed there for about a month.
Speaker A:And then Laban said to Jacob, because you're my brother, in other words, you're.
Speaker A:You're my relative.
Speaker A:Should you not serve me for nothing?
Speaker A:I mean, I don't.
Speaker A:You're helping out around here, you know that's not right.
Speaker A:I want to pay you.
Speaker A:What?
Speaker A:What do you want?
Speaker A:What, what do you want your wages to be?
Speaker A:And Levan had two daughters.
Speaker A:Name of the elder was Leah.
Speaker A:The name of the younger is Rachel.
Speaker A:Leah was tender eyed.
Speaker A:Rachel was beautiful and well favored.
Speaker A:And Jacob loved Rachel.
Speaker A:Said, I'll serve you for seven years.
Speaker A:You don't have to pay me nothing except for Rachel, your younger daughter.
Speaker A:Give her to me as my wife.
Speaker A:And Levon said, it's better that I should give her to you than I should give her to somebody else.
Speaker A:Deal?
Speaker A:Stay with me.
Speaker A:And Jacob served seven years for Rachel.
Speaker A:And they seemed to him as just a few days for the love he had for her.
Speaker A:Now, during this time, they're still not husband and wife.
Speaker A:They're not doing the thing.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:Jacob said unto Laban, my seven years are up, My days are fulfilled.
Speaker A:Give me my wife so I can go in unto her.
Speaker A:He.
Speaker A:He wanted her.
Speaker A:And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a great feast.
Speaker A:Verse 23.
Speaker A:It came to pass in the evening that he took Leah, his daughter, and brought her to him.
Speaker A:And he Went under some people.
Speaker A:How could he not know that this wasn't Rachel?
Speaker A:Well, he made a great feast.
Speaker A:There was alcohol involved.
Speaker A:All right?
Speaker A:There was some alcohol involved with this.
Speaker A:Laban gave her.
Speaker A:Gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpa, his maid, as a handmaid.
Speaker A:And it came to pass that in the morning he wakes up and it was Leah.
Speaker A:Can you imagine?
Speaker A:And he turned to Laban and said, what is this you have done to me?
Speaker A:Did I not serve you for Rachel?
Speaker A:Why have you tricked me?
Speaker A:Why have you beguiled me?
Speaker A:And Lebanon said, it is not to be done in our country to give the younger before the firstborn in marriage.
Speaker A:Fulfill her week.
Speaker A:In other words, fulfill the.
Speaker A:Because the.
Speaker A:The marriage ceremony lasted seven days.
Speaker A:Okay?
Speaker A:Fulfill her week.
Speaker A:And we'll give you this also for the service which you shall serve me for yet another seven years.
Speaker A:Okay?
Speaker A:So take care of this.
Speaker A:Have her as one of your wives, serve me seven more years.
Speaker A:And we'll do this again.
Speaker A:But this time you can have Rachel.
Speaker A:So Jacob did so.
Speaker A:He fulfilled her week, and he gave him Rachel, his daughter, to wife also.
Speaker A:And Laban gave to Rachel, his daughter Billa, his handmaid, to be her maid.
Speaker A:And he went in also on the Rachel.
Speaker A:And he loved Rachel more than Leah and served with him yet another seven years.
Speaker A:So Leah got the big feast.
Speaker A:Rachel didn't get a feast.
Speaker A:You don't see where there was another feast, right?
Speaker A:He fulfilled her week.
Speaker A:Then he gave Rachel his daughter to wife also.
Speaker A:So here, seven days later, okay, Rachel.
Speaker A:There you go.
Speaker A:And when the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb.
Speaker A:That was.
Speaker A:Leah didn't really.
Speaker A:I mean, she had a part to play in this, but she was the one who got tricked, right?
Speaker A:And the Lord seen that she was being hated and that more than likely she'd become an old maid, never have any kids.
Speaker A:That's probably what was going to happen.
Speaker A:That's why the Lord said he seen she was hated.
Speaker A:So he opened her womb.
Speaker A:But Rachel was barren.
Speaker A:Rachel wasn't getting pregnant.
Speaker A:And Leah concede Nabor a son, called his name Reuben.
Speaker A:For she says, surely the Lord has looked upon my affliction.
Speaker A:Now therefore my husband will love me.
Speaker A:Because I gave my boy, I gave him a son.
Speaker A:He's gonna love me now.
Speaker A:Didn't happen.
Speaker A:Verse 33.
Speaker A:She conceived again, bore a son, and said, now the Lord heard that I was hated.
Speaker A:He for has given me this son also.
Speaker A:She called his name Simeon or Simon, but Simeon is the way it's pronounced.
Speaker A:34.
Speaker A:She conceived again, 30, bore a son and said, this time my husband will be joined me because I have now borne him three sons.
Speaker A:Therefore his name was called Levi.
Speaker A:And she conceived again and bore a son.
Speaker A:She says, now I'm going to praise the Lord.
Speaker A:And she called his name Judah.
Speaker A:And she left off childbearing.
Speaker A:Verse 30 When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister and said to Jacob, give me kids or else I'm going to die.
Speaker A:And Jacob got angry at this.
Speaker A:That's the part I love.
Speaker A:Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel.
Speaker A:Now she he's getting mad at Rachel.
Speaker A:He says, am I in God's stead who's withheld from you the fruit of the womb?
Speaker A:Said, don't blame me.
Speaker A:Something's going on with you.
Speaker A:Obviously it's not with me, because she's getting pregnant, right?
Speaker A:And he said.
Speaker A:She said, behold my maid Billa, you go in unto her as she'll bear upon my knees, that I may have children by her also.
Speaker A:Well, where do we hear that story that didn't work out when it.
Speaker A:They tried it last time.
Speaker A:It ain't going to work out this time either.
Speaker A:And she gave him Billa, her handmaid to wife.
Speaker A:And Jacob went in on to her like, hey, something wrong with that boy.
Speaker A:There's really something wrong with that boy, I'm telling you.
Speaker A:He, he, he tricked his brother out of the blessing.
Speaker A:Anyway, continuing on because we're almost out of time.
Speaker A:Oh, Lord have mercy.
Speaker A:Where was I?
Speaker A:Billy conceived and bore Jacob a son.
Speaker A:And Rachel said, God's judged me and has heard my voice and has now given me a son.
Speaker A:So she named this boy Dan.
Speaker A:And Bill of Rachel's May conceived again and bore Jacob another son, a second son.
Speaker A:Rachel said, with great wrestlings I've wrestled with my sister, and now I've prevailed.
Speaker A:She called his name Naphtali, which means my wrestling.
Speaker A:When Leah saw that she had left off childbearing, she took Zilpah, her maid, and gave her to Jacob as a wife.
Speaker A:And Zilba, Leo's maid, bore Jacob a son.
Speaker A:And Leah said, a troop has come.
Speaker A:And she called his name Gad, which means troop 12, verse 12.
Speaker A:@ Zilpa, leaves made bear Jacob a second son.
Speaker A:And Leah said, oh, I am so happy, for the daughters are going to call me blessed.
Speaker A:And she called his name Asher.
Speaker A:I'm getting tired just reading about all these.
Speaker A:This, this boy, he is something wrong with him?
Speaker A:I'm telling you.
Speaker A:Verse 14.
Speaker A:How much time we got?
Speaker A:I will just tell you.
Speaker A:We'll stop right there for today.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:All I can say is wow.
Speaker A:And this, you know, think about the time span that we've seen here, okay?
Speaker A:Seven years.
Speaker A:And here he's got, you know, I mean, you're.
Speaker A:They're not, you know, Lee is not spitting these kids out every couple weeks here.
Speaker A:So, you know, there's at least, let's just say at least a year in between each one of these.
Speaker A:So you got, you know, the, the ones that Leah had and then Billa had some, and then Zilpa had some.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:And we're up to number eight.
Speaker A:So there's got to be at least six to eight, nine years gone by here, okay?
Speaker A:And this boy, I'm telling you, anyway, we're all out of time for today's Pastor Bob Armani.
Speaker A:Be blessed, all that you do.
