Hello everyone, everywhere.
Speaker A:Pastor Bob Thibodeau here.
Speaker A:Welcome to your 15 minute daily Bible walk.
Speaker A:We're so blessed you're joining us today.
Speaker A:We're going to take off today in Genesis, chapter 31, verse 17.
Speaker A:Just to catch up real quick.
Speaker A:We just read in the prior episode where Laban's attitude towards Jacob and his wives had changed.
Speaker A:And Jacob's like, you know, let's just go ahead and pack it up and go on home, all right?
Speaker A:And the girls, Leah and Rachel, they're like, we're with you.
Speaker A:Let's go.
Speaker A:We have nothing left here.
Speaker A:So we see that, that they are in agreement on that.
Speaker A:So that's where we'll pick it up here in verse 17 of Genesis, chapter 31.
Speaker A:Then Jacob rose up, set his sons and his wives upon camels.
Speaker A:And he carried away all his cattle and all his goods which he had gotten the cattle of his giddy, which he had gotten in Pandana to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.
Speaker A:And Laban went to shear his sheep.
Speaker A:And Rachel had stolen the images, the idols.
Speaker A:Okay, he's stolen the idol that were her father's.
Speaker A:And Jacob stole away unaware to Laban, Assyrian.
Speaker A:And that he did not tell him that he'd fled.
Speaker A:So he fled with all that he had.
Speaker A:He rose up and passed over the river, set his face towards Mount Gilead.
Speaker A:And it was Tolebon on the third day that Jacob had fled.
Speaker A:And he took his brethren with him and pursued after him seven days journey.
Speaker A:And they overtook him in the Mount Gilead.
Speaker A:And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night and said to him, take heed that you do not speak to Jacob either good or bad.
Speaker A:So he's getting a warning here from God.
Speaker A:Don't do anything dumb here.
Speaker A:Verse 25.
Speaker A:Then Laban overtook Jacob.
Speaker A:Now Jacob had pitched his tent at Mount Gilead.
Speaker A:And Laban, with his brethren, pitched in the mount of Gilead also.
Speaker A:And Laban said to Jacob, what have you done?
Speaker A:You have stolen away unaware to me and carried away my daughters as captives like they were taken with a sword.
Speaker A:Why did you flee away secretly and steal away from me and did not tell me so that I might have sent away you, you with mirth and with songs and tabri and harp.
Speaker A:In other words, we'd have had a party to send you off.
Speaker A:You did not even permit me to kiss my sons and daughters, my granddaughter, grandsons, granddaughters.
Speaker A:You have now done foolishly in doing this.
Speaker A:It's in the power of my hand right now.
Speaker A:To do you hurt.
Speaker A:But the God of your father spoke to me yesterday or last night, saying, be careful that you do not speak to Jacob either good nor bad.
Speaker A:Now though you would need needs to be gone, because you soar longed after your father's house.
Speaker A:Yet why did you steal my gods as well?
Speaker A:Verse 31 Jacob answered syllaban, because I was afraid.
Speaker A:For I said, what peradventure that you would take by force your daughters from me, and wouldn't let them go.
Speaker A:With whomsoever you find your gods, let him not live before our brethren.
Speaker A:Discern you what's yours with me, and take it to you.
Speaker A:For Jacob didn't even know Rachel had stolen it.
Speaker A:And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants tents, but didn't find anything.
Speaker A:Then he went out of Leah's tent and entered into Rachel's tent.
Speaker A:Now Rachel had taken the images and put them in the camel's furniture and sat upon them.
Speaker A:Laban searched all the tent, but did not find them.
Speaker A:And she said to her father, let it not displease my lord, that I cannot rise up before you, for the custom of women is upon me.
Speaker A:In other words, she told him that she's going through a menstrual period, and he searched, but did not find the images.
Speaker A:And Jacob was then angry and chode with Laban, and said Jacob answered, and said to Laban, what is my trespass?
Speaker A:In other words, what is my sin that you so hotly pursued after me for?
Speaker A:Whereas you've searched all my stuff, what did you find among all my household stuff?
Speaker A:Set it here before my brethren and your brethren, that they may judge between us this 20 years.
Speaker A:20 years Jacob has been there.
Speaker A:Now 20 years I've been with you.
Speaker A:You use your she goats have not cast their young the rams of your flock.
Speaker A:I have not eaten that which was torn of beasts I did not bring to you.
Speaker A:I bore the loss of it, my hand, of my hand did you require it, Whether stolen by day or stolen by night.
Speaker A:In other words, even if it wasn't my fault, you held me responsible for it.
Speaker A:Thus I was in the day, the drought consumed me, and the frost by night my sleep departed from my eyes.
Speaker A:In other words, I was constantly aware of everything you had going on.
Speaker A:Try and protect it.
Speaker A:Thus have I been 20 years in your house.
Speaker A:I served you 14 years for your two daughters, and six years for the cattle.
Speaker A:And you changed my wages 10 times during that time.
Speaker A:Unless the God of my father The God of Abraham and the fear of Isaac had been with me, surely you would have sent me away.
Speaker A:Now empty.
Speaker A:God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands.
Speaker A:And he rebuked you last night.
Speaker A:Laban answered and said to Jacob, these daughters are my daughters.
Speaker A:These children are my children.
Speaker A:These cattle are my cattle.
Speaker A:All that you see is mine.
Speaker A:What can I do this day?
Speaker A:For these daughters are unto their children which they have borne.
Speaker A:Now therefore, let's come and make a covenant together.
Speaker A:I and you, you and me.
Speaker A:Let it be as a witness between you and I.
Speaker A:And Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar.
Speaker A:And Jacob said to his brother, gather some stones.
Speaker A:They took stones, they made a heap, and they did eat there upon the heap.
Speaker A:And Laban called it.
Speaker A:I'm gonna try my best pronunciation here again.
Speaker A:Laban call it jerka, shatutha.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Jacob called it Gallia.
Speaker A:That's a lot easier, isn't it?
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:And I'm sorry, it's Galid, not Galliat.
Speaker A:Galid.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:And Laban said, this heap is a witness between you and I.
Speaker A:And actually, galid means heap of witness.
Speaker A:That's in the middle, middle reference translation there.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Levan said, this heap is a witness between you and I this day.
Speaker A:Therefore, the name was called Galid and Mizpah, which was translated as a beacon or a watchtower.
Speaker A:He said, galid and Mispa.
Speaker A:For he said, the Lord will watch between you and I when we are absent one from another, if you shall afflict my daughters or if you take other wives besides my daughters, and no man is with us.
Speaker A:God is a witness between you and I.
Speaker A:In other words, you better treat my girls better.
Speaker A:Well, all right.
Speaker A:And Laban said to Jacob, behold this heat.
Speaker A:Behold this pillar which I've cast between you and I.
Speaker A:This heap is a witness.
Speaker A:This pillar is a witness that I will not pass over this heap towards you.
Speaker A:You will not pass over this heap and pillar towards me to do harm one to another.
Speaker A:The God of Abraham, the God of Naor, the God of their father is judged between us.
Speaker A:And Jacob swore by the fear of his father, Isaac not.
Speaker A:That's not because he was scared.
Speaker A:The respect that he has for Isaac.
Speaker A:Then Jacob offered a sacrifice upon the mountain and called his brethren to eat bread.
Speaker A:And they did eat bread and tarried all night in the mount.
Speaker A:Early in the morning, Laban rose up, kissed his sons, his daughters, his grandson's granddaughters.
Speaker A:And Laban departed and returned to his place.
Speaker A:And that concludes chapter four.
Speaker A:31.
Speaker A:Now, chapter 32, verse number one.
Speaker A:Genesis 32, verse one.
Speaker A:Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
Speaker A:And when Jacob saw them, he said, this is God's host.
Speaker A:And he called the name of that place Mahanim, which means two hosts or two camps.
Speaker A:Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seer, the country of Edom.
Speaker A:And he commanded them, saying, thus shall you speak unto my Lord Esau.
Speaker A:Your servant Jacob has said, I have sojourned, or I've lived with Laban and stayed there till now.
Speaker A:I have oxen and asses, flocks and men, servants and women's servants.
Speaker A:And I've sent to tell you, my Lord, so I may find grace in your sight.
Speaker A:And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, we came to your brother Esau, and he's coming to meet you.
Speaker A:And he's bringing 400 men with him.
Speaker A:That could not be a good thing, right?
Speaker A:And Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed.
Speaker A:So he divided the people that were with him, the flocks, the herds, the camels into two bands.
Speaker A:And said, if Esau comes to one company and smites it, then perhaps the other company which is left can escape.
Speaker A:Verse 9.
Speaker A:And Jacob said, O God, my father Abraham, the God of my father Isaac, the Lord, which said to me, return to your country and to your kindred, and I will deal well with you.
Speaker A:I am not worthy of the least of your mercies and of all the truth which you have shown unto your servant.
Speaker A:For with my staff I passed over this Jordan river.
Speaker A:And now I become two bands.
Speaker A:Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him, lest he comes and smites me and the mother with the children.
Speaker A:You said, I will surely do you good and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
Speaker A:What is he doing here?
Speaker A:He's reminding God of the promise God gave him.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:There is nothing wrong with that.
Speaker A:Folks, when.
Speaker A:When you're up against a distressful situation, it could be loss of a job, loss of a loved one, injuries, sickness, Whatever the case may be.
Speaker A:You have every right to make this petition to God and remind God about what he said.
Speaker A:Matter of fact, I've got teachings on that.
Speaker A:On a prayer of petition.
Speaker A:How to develop a prayer petition.
Speaker A:Your prayer petition is simply reminding God about what he said.
Speaker A:Now, God doesn't forget what he said.
Speaker A:Okay, let me just bring that out right now.
Speaker A:But you are reinforcing this in your mind and in your spirit.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:When you write down and par.
Speaker A:Pars of petition need to be written down, you need to keep.
Speaker A:You need to keep a journal.
Speaker A:You know, you need to keep your own.
Speaker A:Here, here's mine here.
Speaker A:You know, you need to keep your own journal.
Speaker A:So when you're reading and something jump.
Speaker A:God speaks to you through scripture.
Speaker A:Write it down.
Speaker A:What does it mean to you?
Speaker A:The date, the time, and.
Speaker A:And put yourself in agreement with it.
Speaker A:And then when you're doing a prayer of petition, you can go back and look at these scriptures that the Lord put on your heart, where he spoke to your heart, your spirit man, and say, God, you told me on this date, this time, I put myself in agreement with it.
Speaker A:I'm just reminding you of this right now.
Speaker A:Really.
Speaker A:I'm reminding me more of it than you, God, because I know you don't forget it.
Speaker A:I want you to know I'm standing in agreement with you.
Speaker A:I'm in agreement with you, Father, that all my needs are met according to your riches in glory by Christ Jesus, whatever the case may be in your prayer petition.
Speaker A:And that is what Jacob is doing right here.
Speaker A:He's reminding God of the promise God gave to him.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:And that he and God are in covenant with this.
Speaker A:Remember all that that we covered a few sessions back, right?
Speaker A:So when he first went over towards Laban.
Speaker A:All right, and we're gonna.
Speaker A:That's where we're going to end this at today.
Speaker A:And we'll take it up next time right there in verse 13 of chapter 32 of Genesis.
Speaker A:Till next time it's passed about reminding you to be blessed in all that you do.
