Speaker A:

Hello everyone, everywhere.

Speaker A:

Pastor Bob Thibodeau here.

Speaker A:

Welcome to your daily 15 minute Bible walk.

Speaker A:

I'm so blessed you're joining us here today as we're going verse by verse through the scriptures, starting in the book of Genesis.

Speaker A:

And today we're going to start in Genesis chapter 22.

Speaker A:

We just finished chapter 21 in the previous episode.

Speaker A:

Now we're going to start off in Genesis chapter 22.

Speaker A:

This is a very important chapter and we're probably going to take our time on this one because I got a lot of stuff I want to share with you on this.

Speaker A:

Amen.

Speaker A:

So let's start reading here in Genesis, chapter 22, verse number one.

Speaker A:

It came to pass after these things.

Speaker A:

What things is that?

Speaker A:

Well, Abraham had, had sent Hagar and Ishmael off by themselves.

Speaker A:

And now they're, they're, you know, he, she took him a wife from Egypt and, and you know, he's doing well.

Speaker A:

He's.

Speaker A:

He's being taken care of.

Speaker A:

You know, he's blessed because God promised Abraham he'd bless him with descendants as well, because he is Abraham's child, you know, through his descendants.

Speaker A:

And then King Abimelek came and, and said, hey, you know, we, I understand there's some contention here.

Speaker A:

I want to make sure that we're good with each other.

Speaker A:

And Abraham said, deal.

Speaker A:

You know, I don't have a problem with you if you don't have a problem with me living here.

Speaker A:

And then he said, yeah, but you know, you got to tell your guys, stop.

Speaker A:

You know, they took this well from me, right?

Speaker A:

And Abimelech didn't know anything about it.

Speaker A:

So they made a deal and made a covenant, swap some sheep and oxen and all that saying, you know, the well is yours.

Speaker A:

You're.

Speaker A:

You can live peacefully here.

Speaker A:

I don't have a problem with that.

Speaker A:

And then he left.

Speaker A:

Okay, now verse 22, we have a passage of time, says it came to pass after these things that God did tempt Abraham.

Speaker A:

Now that.

Speaker A:

Look at that.

Speaker A:

Okay, I want to go to the Message Bible and I want to look at Genesis 22, and we're gonna see what that says, because the message Bible explains it a little bit better.

Speaker A:

After all this, God tested Abraham and said, Abraham.

Speaker A:

He said, yes.

Speaker A:

That's how Amber, Amber answered, yes, God, I'm here.

Speaker A:

I'm listening.

Speaker A:

So take your dear son Isaac, whom you love, go to the land of Moriah.

Speaker A:

Now, last time God told him to go somewhere and he didn't obey it exactly as how it was supposed to go, right?

Speaker A:

When God said, I want you to go to land.

Speaker A:

I'll show you about leave.

Speaker A:

Separate yourself from your family.

Speaker A:

He took his dad, he took his nephew.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

And it wasn't as smooth as it should have been until he actually did what God said.

Speaker A:

See if he learned his lesson.

Speaker A:

He said, take your dear son Isaac, whom you love.

Speaker A:

Go to the land of Moriah.

Speaker A:

That's number one.

Speaker A:

You gotta go where I tell you to go.

Speaker A:

Two, and he Abrams.

Speaker A:

Okay, we'll do that.

Speaker A:

Then sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I'll point out to you.

Speaker A:

Okay, now we got a problem.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

But notice Abraham still remembers number one.

Speaker A:

God told me when it was impossible for me and Sarah to have a baby, we were going to have a baby.

Speaker A:

And we did.

Speaker A:

And he promised me that through Isaac, my descendants would be as numerous as the stars of heaven.

Speaker A:

Now he hasn't even got a wife yet, hadn't even started a family yet.

Speaker A:

If God's promises are sure, if God never breaks his promises.

Speaker A:

He swore to me by no one greater than himself that this is the way it was going to be.

Speaker A:

God's got to do that.

Speaker A:

And I'm going to hold him to that.

Speaker A:

I don't know what the purpose is in me going up here.

Speaker A:

He says offer him as an offering of sacrifice, a burnt offering.

Speaker A:

I mean, he wants me to.

Speaker A:

To kill Isaac, burn his body.

Speaker A:

But yet he promised me that Isaac could have children and grandchildren and numerous as the stars of heaven.

Speaker A:

So now Abraham has to make a choice.

Speaker A:

Is he going to believe God, hold God to what he promised him?

Speaker A:

Or is he going to say, you know, God, I don't know about all this because it's impossible for you to.

Speaker A:

I mean, I could see maybe perhaps because you, you brought life to Sarah's womb that was dead.

Speaker A:

It brought life to my parts which were dead.

Speaker A:

And because of that, we were able to have Isaac.

Speaker A:

Are you able to raise.

Speaker A:

I could see him if Isaac had died.

Speaker A:

I could trust you.

Speaker A:

I can trust you for raising him up.

Speaker A:

But if I burn his body, how are you going to raise up his body on that?

Speaker A:

So these thoughts here are running through Abraham's mind.

Speaker A:

That's why it's called a test.

Speaker A:

God has seen if Abraham will actually believe God's covenant.

Speaker A:

That's what he's looking at here is the covenant.

Speaker A:

Is God going to fulfill his covenant?

Speaker A:

Because remember in Abraham's day is more than a promise.

Speaker A:

It is more than a promise.

Speaker A:

You know, if we'll just use Abimelech here As an example, Abimelech, you know, if Abraham did something that really offended Abimelech, he could break that covenant.

Speaker A:

He could break it.

Speaker A:

You know, it's.

Speaker A:

You know, it's a promise that's made by two men, but for God.

Speaker A:

God, he can't break a covenant, otherwise he wouldn't be God.

Speaker A:

So Abraham decides, I still hold to the covenant that God made with me.

Speaker A:

I don't understand all this, but I know I've seen God live up to his end of this deal, so we're just gonna go do it.

Speaker A:

So once that decision is made, he said he got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, took two of his young servants.

Speaker A:

Notice the young servants.

Speaker A:

He didn't take two of the older servants.

Speaker A:

Why?

Speaker A:

Well, one, the older servants are probably very familiar with Abraham.

Speaker A:

We'll put it like that.

Speaker A:

You know, I won't say they're buddies because they're still service.

Speaker A:

They work for him, but they can probably try and talk him out of it.

Speaker A:

The younger servants, you know, they're like, hey, you're going with the boss.

Speaker A:

Whatever he says, do, do.

Speaker A:

They don't feel comfortable trying to argue with Abraham, okay?

Speaker A:

So whatever he tells them to do, they're going to do.

Speaker A:

And you're going to see that here.

Speaker A:

So that's number one.

Speaker A:

Took two young servants with him and his son Isaac, and he had split wood for the burnt offering.

Speaker A:

And he set out for the place that God had direct him to go to.

Speaker A:

Now they're headed out.

Speaker A:

Notice it does not say Abraham went and told Sarah Sarah what God had told him to do.

Speaker A:

It does not say that anywhere.

Speaker A:

All right, number two, if Abraham would have told Sarah, I'm gonna go offer Isaac up as an off burnt offering up on some mountain gods want me to go find.

Speaker A:

And then I'll come back and she's like, over my dead body.

Speaker A:

Think about Mama Bear would take charge in that situation, you know?

Speaker A:

You know, I would not want to be in that position trying to explain to Sarah what you intended to do.

Speaker A:

I could guarantee Mama Bear would take over, right?

Speaker A:

So he didn't do it.

Speaker A:

He probably told her, God wants me to take Isaac.

Speaker A:

We're going to go offer a sacrifice under the Lord and some mountain that he's going to show me where it's at when I get there.

Speaker A:

And she's like, okay, have a good time.

Speaker A:

Sends him on his way, right?

Speaker A:

So that's why Sarah is not mentioned here.

Speaker A:

So they got up early in the morning, took two young servants, his son split the Wood for the burnt offering set out for the place God had direct them to go.

Speaker A:

And on the third day, day one, they leave, they spend the night.

Speaker A:

Day two, they travel, nighttime comes, spend the night.

Speaker A:

Day three, they're on their way again.

Speaker A:

And then he sees it in the distance, there it is, the Holy Spirit or the angel of the Lord, whatever, said, that's the place you gotta go.

Speaker A:

All right?

Speaker A:

So he looked up, saw the place in the distance.

Speaker A:

And Abraham told his two young servants, you stay here with the donkey.

Speaker A:

It's still a long ways off.

Speaker A:

But he said, you stay here with the donkey.

Speaker A:

Isaac will carry the wood for this from this point on.

Speaker A:

It doesn't say how far that was, but let's say it was a half day, okay?

Speaker A:

Isaac got to carry this wood now, just like Jesus carried his cross.

Speaker A:

Think about that.

Speaker A:

He says, the boy and I are going over there to worship, and then we will come back to you.

Speaker A:

He goes, you stay here.

Speaker A:

We're gonna go up there and worship, and I'll be back.

Speaker A:

He did not say that.

Speaker A:

Words, folk, folks, words matter here.

Speaker A:

Words are very important.

Speaker A:

It would have been so easy to say, the boy and I are going up there, doing offering, then I'll be back.

Speaker A:

Just have that pop out of your head, just out of your mind, I'll be back.

Speaker A:

You stay here, I'll be back.

Speaker A:

And that would have been the word spoken.

Speaker A:

Instead he said, the son, my son and I are going over there and we will come back to you.

Speaker A:

In other words, don't you come up there.

Speaker A:

We will come back to you.

Speaker A:

And Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and gave it to Isaac, his son, to carry.

Speaker A:

And he carried the flint and the knife.

Speaker A:

And the two of them went off together, leaving the donkey and the servants behind.

Speaker A:

Then Isaac said to his father, Father said, yes, my son, we have the flint, we have the wood, but where's the sheep for the burnt offering?

Speaker A:

So in other words, he'd been teaching Isaac about covenant.

Speaker A:

He'd been teaching Isaac about offerings to the Lord.

Speaker A:

He'd been teaching that probably having Isaac participate in these things.

Speaker A:

That's why Sarah didn't get really upset when he said, the Lord wants me and Isaac go up and offer, give him an offering up here on one of these mountains.

Speaker A:

She didn't think nothing of it.

Speaker A:

He'd been teaching Isaac about this his whole life at this point in time.

Speaker A:

Okay, so here he says, where's.

Speaker A:

Where's we got the wood, but where's the sheep?

Speaker A:

And Isaac and Abraham here in verse 8, said, Son, God will see to it that there's a sheep for the burnt offering.

Speaker A:

God will see to it there's a sheep for the burnt offering.

Speaker A:

He didn't say, and you it.

Speaker A:

He did not say that.

Speaker A:

He said, God's.

Speaker A:

God's already provided the sheep and you it, boy.

Speaker A:

No, he did not do that.

Speaker A:

He just said now.

Speaker A:

He just spoke words of faith.

Speaker A:

The boy and I are going to offer, make an offering up here.

Speaker A:

We will come back to you.

Speaker A:

You, you wait here.

Speaker A:

On the way, Isaac said, I see the fire, see the wood, where's the sheep?

Speaker A:

He goes, God will provide for himself a sheep for the offering.

Speaker A:

That's so important.

Speaker A:

That is so important.

Speaker A:

And they kept on walking together.

Speaker A:

And we're going to stop right there for today.

Speaker A:

We'll stop right there.

Speaker A:

Put a little mark there.

Speaker A:

Put one in your Bible too.

Speaker A:

And we'll take it up there next time.

Speaker A:

About the Podcast

15 Minute Daily Bible Walk
Verse by Verse Through The Bible
This has been a project I have been contemplating for a long time.

Join me in walking through the Bible on our personal Bible study - one verse at at time. There is no "preaching" here. Just simple scripture reading with brief explanations and examples of what the scripture mean.

I was inspired to do this project based upon the program "Through The Bible" with Dr. Jay Veron McGee (who is passed on to be with the Lord for several years now). When I first started to study the Bible, his radio program helped me immensely. It took Dr. McGee 5 years to do a complete Bible Study.

I do not know how long it will take us. But you can start listening at anytime. My goal is to create a new episode each and every day (365 days per year).

Of course, "sometimes" life will get in the way (for many reasons). But I will pick it right back up where we left off (and try to catch up the days that were missed - to help keep us on track).

As I continue to add more episodes, you can join us at the most recent program or start at the beginning. Each episode is labeled as to the scriptures we are going to discuss.

I am so blessed you are here and I pray you will get a huge blessing as we join together in a "15 Minute Daily Bible Walk!" Amen!

About your host

Profile picture for Robert Thibodeau

Robert Thibodeau

I am a 12 year Army veteran as both enlisted and as a commissioned Cavalry Officer.
I am now a retired law enforcement supervisor...

I had my own business for seven years before I entered law enforcement.

As a cop, I was injured on the job on May 12, 2007 and after several surgeries over a couple of years, forced to retire in 2011.

As I was looking down the road to “what am I going to do next?” I started what is now known as a podcast (I had no clue at the time).

Within six months of starting (what I called) “My online radio program” I was offered an opportunity to be on nationwide AM radio. I learned A LOT in one year of doing that!

I then started the online Christian radio platform "Evangelism Radio" in the fall of 2010. It has had listeners in 160+ nations and all 50 states. We host 50+ Christian broadcasters on a weekly basis. We have been operating 24/7 for almost 14 years now. We have been rated #1 in the world by Shoutcast. com on several occasions in our genre. We recently transferred ownership of Evangelism Radio to another ministry so I could concentrate full time on podcasting, preaching and writing.

In 2018, I started the Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast to conduct interviews with Christian influencers from all walks of life and to play their interviews on the radio station. (The KCR Podcast has its own time slot on Evangelism Radio)!
We now have over 1600 episodes and almost 1100 interviews (in just over 6 years).

Looking out at the future of online Christian media, I noticed there was no viable platforms that catered only to the Christian podcast market.

In 2023, we launched a networking platform called, "FaithCasters" which connects "Great Christian podcasters with Great Christian Guests!" This helps to promote the work you do through podcast interviews! Check it out at https://FaithCaster.org

We recently launched "FaithCaster Academy" which serves as a training hub for ALL of our trainings (podcast training / speaker training / interview training, etc.). Members receive access to ALL of our training programs for one low, monthly membership fee. Members also receive FREE access to ALL of the LIVE trainings I conduct (1 or 2 per month) - while non-members have to pay to access the live trainings.

Between my podcast training program, conducting podcast interviews, appearing on other podcasts as guests, speaking at conferences (in person and virtually) and the podcast networking platform, I guess you could say “I’m all in” when it comes to podcasting and online media!

My total focus is to do all we can to assist you to “Get The Word Out” about your mission, services, products, ministry, books, business, etc.
